    I have a Canon 50D that I use primarily. It doesn't shoot video. My ex-wife has a Nikon and this was purchased for use on that camera. I was pleased with the results. The first use was in a church sanctuary and it was had a lot of echo in the room. The microphone picked some of that up, but the audio was still good. This was my first experience with using a DSLR for video and an external microphone. It was intuitive and pleasant. Gives me one more reason to want to upgrade to a 7D for myself.

    Wow, excellent sounds quality for this price, using Canon 5dmk2+Magic Lantern+this mic is all I need, nothing to worry about, gets me solid audio for footage everytime.

    Works amazing with my GoPro it is a night and day difference... iv never used a rode mic before so i can not compare the two but for the money this mic is amazing definitely worth every penny

    This is my first microphone, and it sounds like a good start point. The sound is pretty clean in silent environment for ranges <2 meters (~6 feet). In louder environment, it is still OK. I Think that for its price, it is more than a great deal!

    This is better than a lot of microphones that cost over $200. If you are like me and do research on items before buying them then go to YouTube and get your before and after sample video clips and you will be amazed at what this little guy can do! The barrel is metal! Overall just a solid mix. I got a deadcat wind sock over mine and it looks and performs superb! Don't hesitate and miss out, for this price at least try it, you will never go back to on board sound again!

    Why 5 Stars: Works great. Solid product. Sound quality is good for the price/value. Initially I thought it really didn't make a difference when I shot some test vlog video, then I set it up outside on my Canon SL1 DSLR with various noises going on, which included 8mph wind gust and aircraft flying by. I recorded myself speaking the Beverly Hillbillies song. Once without the mic and once with it connected and turned on. There was absolutely a notable difference with the Takstar SGC-598 on. All the wind noise was gone and I didn't hear the planes flying over. Great mic for the money. I absolutely recommend this mic for the money. Great value/performance, plus was available as Prime purchase to boot.

    I've been using this mic for a few weeks and the sound quality is amazing. It picks up sounds that the on-board mic would have trouble picking up.I am using a Canon rebel T5i with the audio recording set to MANUAL.

    Was leery about this low priced mic, but after purchasing it and using it with my Vx2000 I am very, very happy. Clear sound, not much background noise. Worth all the pennies I used to buy it.

    Did some research on alternatives for the Rode mic and came across this several times. This microphone did an EXCEPTIONAL job! My setup was approximately 100 feet away from the stage and the audio was very crisp. The microphone also did a good job of not picking up background noise from the people moving & talking around me. This microphone has earned a permanent spot in my photography gear collection.
