I bought one of these to use as a hairlight and fill, and two of the YN-600 Pro and I'm SUPER HAPPY WITH THEM! There are many positive features to these lights: ~INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF LIGHT OUTPUT. I set the two YN-600s up as key and fill lights, and the 300 for a hairlight, and the coverage was amazing! ~TWO MODES: DAYLIGHT & TUNGSTEN BALANCED ~CAN BE OPERATED BY REMOTE CONTROL: When I purchased these, I wasn't sure the practical use of a remote control, but once I set them up and used them on set, I "got it". With the remote control, you can turn up to three of these units on and off together, or individually (great for saving batteries between takes), you can DIM each light individually so you can balance light while you're looking through your video monitor without having to go out and physically touch the lights. My on-set talent appreciated that we killed the lights between takes (because they're so bright!), and I was able to alert them, "lights coming up" so they would know not to be looking directly into a unit when it came on. (Yah, they're that bright). ~light weight, easy to transport ~battery operated, can set them up anywhere without the need for electric cables running everywhere. I Really Love this. Uses standard Canon FP-series batteries ~come with an attachable handle so you can hand-hold the light if you need to track with an actor, or want to create a special effect ~Comes with a diffusion filter, and other colored filters for effects The ONLY CONS, would be the barn doors are reflective, so you can't really use them to cut the light as you would with black barn doors. I worked around this by attaching non-reflective black felt paper to the doors, which eliminated the reflection, and allowed me to use the doors as flags. Second, each unit has a fan which comes on automatically if the unit gets too warm. I haven't had this happen yet (the units operate at a very cool level), but I suppose if you're working in a warm environment, and the lights are left continuously running, the fan could come on, and the slight noise could spoil your audio. This, I think, is another good reason for using the remote and turning the units off between takes and setups. I did a TON of research before buying these, and it was between these and a softbox set, and I'm glad I chose these to start with. I will probably also use a softbox set in the future, but for now, these two lights and the 300 I'm using for hairlight is enough to adequately light a small set, and small setups. I will buy more of these.
